SAN JACINTO, CA – On 06/25/2023 at about 1:06 am, Cal Fire along with Hemet Fire Department and Soboba Fire responded to reports of a residential structure fire at the American Village senior community at the intersections of Congress Way and Esplanade Ave in San Jacinto.
Upon arrival, the firefighting teams identified a triplex with one unit well involved with fire and with a large exterior fire. Prompt action was taken as firefighters launched an aggressive attack on the first residence, and soon on the adjacent home, which began emanating dense smoke from the roof and eventually erupted into a sizable blaze.
Although the third home faced imminent peril from the encroaching flames, firefighters managed to successfully contain the fire before it could engulf the additional dwelling. Remarkably, all occupants and their pets were promptly evacuated without sustaining any injuries. Notably, a courageous couple featured in the footage came forward to share their tale of rescuing an occupant of one of the homes affected by the fire.
The aftermath of the incident saw a significant presence of fire personnel and Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies at the scene, diligently addressing the situation for several hours. The fire was brought under control within approximately half an hour from the arrival of the first engine company. A witness, who observed a luminous object flying through the air before landing in the vicinity of the first home, described the incident as a probable ignition source. There is growing suspicion that the fire may have been caused by an individual who deliberately hurled an incendiary device at the side of the house. However, it is important to note that officials have not yet confirmed the fire as an act of arson, although they acknowledge the possibility and remain vigilant in their investigations.
Last update had the number of displaced to four. To aid those affected, Red Cross swiftly mobilized their resources and assistance was on its way to provide the necessary support to the displaced individuals and their pets.
