HEMET – On 05/21/2023 shortly after 2:00 am, Hemet Firefighters responded to reports of a solo vehicle rollover crash near the intersections of State St and Florida Ave.
Arriving crews located a car rolled on its roof, crashed into a gate belonging to the Hemet Museum building. The driver of the vehicle self-extricated and crawled away from the wreck.
The driver appeared to have suffered only a minor to moderate head injury and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Before transport, the driver informed Hemet Police Officers of a firearm that was still in the vehicle and that it was legally registered to him. Officers recovered the weapon prior to the car being towed.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time although speed and DUI are suspected factors.
Witnesses who were at the scene stated that the crashed car was involved in racing another vehicle at high speeds just before the driver lost control and that there were possibly other passengers on board the crashed car that fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.
This is preliminary info based on witness statements and info gathered at the scene and this info will be updated if official information is released.
